I thought the election was in May?
The May Primaries allowed voters to choose both their Republican Candidate and Democratic Candidate for the General Election on August 6th.
With the primary over, District 1 voters will now choose between me and Scotty Bush!
Why are local school board races partisan?
Tennessee Republicans passed a law in 2021 allowing county parties to make school board races partisan, and Sumner County's party chose to do so. Since 2022, school board races have had party primaries.
Why are you running as a Democrat in a heavily Republican county?
Originally a Michigander firmly immersed in the Christian Reformed church, I was born and bred to be a Republican.
Life has a way of teaching you that no political party has a monopoly on doing good in this world. When I looked honestly at my values and analyzed each party’s historical impact/platform, running as a Democrat was the closest alignment and voters deserve that transparency.
What does a financial professional bring to a school board?
My professional job is to make sure the deposits you have in the Bank remain safe. Working in commercial real estate during the Great Recession and growing up in an area heavily reliant on the auto industry, I saw the impact of inadequate cash management practices.
With a budget of over $400 million annually, taxpayers deserve board members who take prudent steps to ensure our county’s greatest investment remains strong for our future generations.
How is this campaign funded?
This campaign is primarily self-funded through personal funds and my LLC (as of May). A few individuals found my ActBlue link and made small donations ranging from $10 to $100. Despite not initially seeking any donations, friends keep telling me, “People want to help, Jill. Let them.”
I will not accept donations from any PAC, political party, or unaligned interest.

What is your deal with yard signs?
Outside of not liking the idea of them ending up in a landfill, I wanted to challenge the idea that campaigning meant you have to spend $10,000+ just to run. But signs are expensive!
Voters need more choice. I challenged myself to run a low-budget race hoping to encourage more people to run in the future. That meant getting creative. The few larger signs were hand crafted by me - with the helping hands of kiddos in our schools! The smaller yard signs were heading for the landfill, so I decided to upcycle instead of buying new :)
